Telecommunication in the business world is absolutely paramount to the success of a company. Whether it is around the world, or across the office, telecommunication simplifies a day in the office by allowing associates to communicate without actually being in the same room. All manners of telecommunicating are cost effective to a business because they cut the cost for travel and increase productivity, by never requiring the associate to leave their desk, thus saving time. Three major ways of telecommunicating are by engaging in an audio conference, a video conference or a web conference.
An audio conference is also commonly known as a conference call. This is the oldest method of telecommunicating, dating as far back as the seventies and eighties. It has been used as a way to meet with parties not present, be they in another corner of the office, or another corner of the earth. Audio conference calls are generally restricted to the telephone, though there are some computer programs designed specifically for audio only. Even with increased technology allowing video and web conferences, audio conference calls are still commonly used to report things such as quarterly earnings, or to hold monthly brainstorming sessions.
Video conferences or videoteleconference are similar to the audio conference in its benefits, however this manner of telecommunicating connects people via video through a computer system. One program used for video conferencing that most of the population is aware of is Skype. Skype is actually one of many company’s go-to programs for video conferences, because it is easy to use and free. With the rise of video conferencing many businesses have also allowed the rise of working from home. Video conferences are considered much more personal and reliable than audio conferences, while still retaining all the benefits of audio conferences.
Finally, a web conference takes the basics of audio and video conferences and adds a third element, the sharing of media. A web conference is strikingly similar to a video conference, however web conferences allow for the sharing of media such as power points, data reports, documents and audio/video files. Now a meeting normally held in a single conference room at the headquarters of a company, can be held all around the world, without the loss of data. Associates can share a power point with each member of the conference and give their presentation from their office, wherever it may be.
The technology that has brought us this far into the future continues to simplify every aspect of our lives. With audio, video and web conference calls, businesses can expect to continue achieve great things and turning profits. These methods have revolutionized the productivity and communication of thousands of businesses. What’s next, holograms?
